Acupuncture and chronic neck pain
Acupuncture has a long positive history of alleviating pain.
In the November 2006 issue of the medical journal Pain, the authors report of a clinical trial involving 14,161 patients who reported chronic neck pain for more than six months.
Patients were randomly allocated to receive acupuncture or no acupuncture in combination with routine care for their chronic neck pain. The research showed that patients who received up to 15 acupuncture sessions over three months in addition to their usual routine care reported an improvement in their neck pain and a reduction in associated disability. In contrast, patients who received routine care alone did not report an improvement.
