Skin Cancer/Melanoma
Often more than one person in a family is affected by melanoma.
Is it because family members share a similar gene pool or is it because family members are exposed to similar environmental influences?
A recent study of twins conducted by Shekar et al. suggests that genetic make-up plays a notable role (55%) (Journal of Investigative Dermatology 2009, 129: 2211-2219).
